Machamp · Scarlet & Violet 151, what to know.
About the Machamp card
Machamp sits at #68 in Scarlet & Violet 151, released in September 2023. Scarlet & Violet 151 is part of the modern English Pokémon TCG era and uses the standard contemporary card frame and rarity tiers. Illustration by Ryuta Fuse. In the games, Machamp evolves from Machoke, which makes it a late-stage card in the line.
The flavor text on the card reads: "With four arms that react more quickly than it can think, it can execute many punches at once." Pokédex entries from this era are short and often quirky, written by the original Japanese localization team for a specific stat-block layout that no longer exists in modern cards.
About Machamp in the Pokémon world
The Fighting-type final form of the Machop line. Four arms. Base Set holo Machamp is the only holo card guaranteed to appear in 1st Edition Base Set starter decks (the Bulbasaur preconstructed deck). Its 1st Edition print is dramatically more common than other Base holos in 1st Edition because of this. The Unlimited print population mostly came from booster packs and is much smaller.
Print variants and how to spot them
Scarlet & Violet 151 shipped in Holofoil, Reverse Holo, ex, Full Art, and Special Illustration. Each of the 151 original Kanto Pokémon appears in some form across the set. Charizard ex Special Illustration Rare (#199) is the headline pull and drove extreme launch demand.
Grading and condition
For graded buyers, modern Rares grade easily but the secondary market for graded modern non-holo Rares is thin. The math rarely justifies submission unless the card is a tournament staple or the Pokémon has independent collector traction.
If you are buying this card
For raw purchases of this card, verify centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface scratches under angled light. Modern Rares are inexpensive in raw and graded condition; submission math rarely works unless the card has independent collector demand.
