Jungle

The first expansion. Jungle arrived six months after Base Set, broadened the playable Pokémon pool with non-starters like Scyther, Pinsir, and the Eeveelutions, and gave the secondary market one of its quietest sleepers: the No Symbol error print.

The story

Jungle in the timeline.

Jungle is the first expansion set, released June 16, 1999. It widened the playable pool with Pokémon that did not fit into Base Set: Scyther, Pinsir, the Eeveelutions, Snorlax, the Nidoran female evolution line, and several others.

The set runs 64 cards: 16 Rare Holos, 16 Rares, 16 Uncommons, and 16 Commons. The holos are split roughly evenly between competitive staples (Scyther, Vileplume) and collector marquees (Snorlax, the Eeveelutions).

Collector notes

Jungle holos are easier to find well-centered than Base Set holos, but the holo surface is still the most common grade cap. The Eeveelutions (Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon) have outsized collector demand relative to their original pull rate.
