Fossil

The third Wizards print. Fossil shipped in October 1999 and centered the new Fighting type with prehistoric Pokémon: Aerodactyl, Kabutops, and Omastar. Dragonite and the legendary birds gave it the heat that still pulls collectors to sealed booster boxes.

The story

Fossil in the timeline.

Fossil is the third Wizards print, released October 10, 1999. The expansion centered on prehistoric Pokémon and introduced the Fighting type into the wider rotation: Kabutops, Omastar, Aerodactyl, and Hitmonlee anchor that side of the set.

The set runs 62 cards: 15 Rare Holos, 15 Rares, 16 Uncommons, and 16 Commons. Dragonite is the headline chase and one of the most-loved cards from the original Wizards era.

Collector notes

Dragonite leads Fossil headlines, but Aerodactyl, Articuno, and Zapdos have meaningful collector bases of their own. The Fossil holo print produces noticeable "holo bleed," where the foil pattern extends slightly outside the framed window. It is original to the card and not graded as damage.
