Sword & Shield released February 7, 2020 as the base set of the SWSH era. Launched alongside the Galar-region games and introduced the V mechanic as the successor to the GX mechanic from the Sun & Moon era.
The set runs 216 cards. Zacian V and Zamazenta V are the marquee Galarian Legendaries; Charizard V is the franchise headline pull. The set established the visual identity that would carry through the entire SWSH block.
SWSH base shipped in Holofoil, Reverse Holo, Full Art (the V cards), and Secret Rare. The Secret Rare slot is a numbered card above the standard set total (cards 203+ in this set are Secret Rares).
No 1st Edition convention by this era; that practice ended in the early 2000s. The set symbol is the standard SWSH mark.
